Stick Insects

Stick insects are a particular type of insect falling under the order Phasmatodea, and are also known as walking sticks, stick-bugs, phasmids, ghost insects and leaf insects. They get their name from this natural stick like appearance which provides camouflage making them extremely difficult to spot. There are around 3,000 described species worlwide with many many more yet to be described. Of these there are around 300 species being successfully reared in captivity.

Similar to praying mantis, stick insects display a rhythmic rocking behaviour, with repetitive side-side swaying movements.
