Salamanders

Salamanders are another distinct type of amphibian and fall under the order Urodela, with around 500 species worldwide. They can make an interesting exotic pet to keep, due to their amphibious life style which allows a vivarium to be constructed using both land and water features.

Salamanders are characterized by slender bodies, (similar to those of lizards), long tails and four equally sized limbs. Salamanders are usually brightly coloured to warm potential predators about toxins in their skins, however some underground species lack any skin pigmentation. One unique feature to all salamanders is their ability to regenerate lost limbs and other body parts/internal organs.
